About the Best Mulch in Town
Our Story
In 1994, J.W. Field Grading & Excavating was simply one man and a bulldozer. Jeff sourced his own work while his wife, Dawn, was at home raising their first child and handling the office work from home. Over the years, the business grew substantially and office and yard space was acquired in Highland, MI, in 2005.
During the economy crash of 2008, the decision to diversify resulted in two divisions to the company in hopes to attract a larger customer base - J.W. Field Septic Services and J.W. Field Landscape Supplies. The landscape division was a major learning curve. We began by purchasing mulch from other suppliers within the first few years but was disappointed in the product and it was not something we were proud to sell. Jeff set out to research and learn how to make quality mulch himself using natural forest products like nature intended.
Today we are proud to say we carry the "Best Mulch in Town" and stand behind that 100%.
Our Product
We offer the Best Mulch in Town, with products varying from uncut Northern White cedar, natural double and triple ground mulch to our richly colored selection of Havannah Brown, Midnight Black, Sierra Red, and Gold Rush. We believe in using the best ingredients to get the best product and that is why our mulch is made from all-natural forest product, never scrap wood, and created here on-site. Our colorant is water based and PPP (People, Pet, Plant) safe, so you never have to worry about harmful chemicals. We believe that your time is valuable so we offer orders and deliveries that can be placed over the phone, in the office, and even online now!
